LIVING THROUGH QURAN

LIVING THROUGH QURAN

Surah al-Anfal (The Spoils of War)

Chapter 8: Verse 24 (Partial)

"O you who believe, respond to Allah and
His messenger as they call you to that
which gives you life"

The Quran came to change the beliefs,
behavior and outlook of all who are
astray. It came to guide them to the
true happiness and the way of life that
one should follow in this life.
Al-Suddi, an early commentator on the
Quran, stated that this verse means that
Islam gave the Companions true life
after they were truly dead in disbelief.

The difference between faith and
disbelief is truly comparable to the
difference between life and death.
Knowing the Quran, that source of life
to which Allah and His Messenger (peace
be upon him) is calling every human, as
opposed to not knowing it is also
comparable to the difference between
life and death.

The effect of the Quran can clearly be
seen in the first generation of Muslims.
These were the people who were given
life by the Quran. They were taken from
darkness into light. The example they
set is the example that all later
generations who believe in the Quran
must aspire to.

THE CHANGE IN THE ARABS BROUGHT ABOUT
THROUGH THE QURAN

Perhaps one of the best descriptions of
the change that took place among the
Muslims can be seen in the famous
statement of the Companion Jafar ibn Abu
Taalib who was asked by the Negus of
Abyssinia about the mission of the
Messenger. He told him:

O king, we were an ignorant people,
worshipping idols, eating carrion and
indulging in sexual pleasures. We teased
our neighbors, a brother oppressed his
brother, and the strong devoured the
weak. At this time a man rose among us,
who had already been known to be
truthful, noble and honest. This man
called us to Islam. And he taught us to
give up worshipping stones, to speak the
truth, to refrain from bloodshed, and
not to defraud the orphans of their
property. He taught us to provide
comfort to our neighbors and not to
bring a slander against chaste women. He
enjoined upon us to offer prayers,
observe fasts and give alms. We followed
him, gave up polytheism and idolatry and
refrained from all evil deeds.

That generation, in turn, took the
message to the rest of the world. They
were clearly a people who were taken
from darkness into light and to the
straight path of Allah. When asked by
the Emperor of Persia what brought the
Muslims to their lands, two different
Companions answered in similar terms:
"Allah has sent us to take whoever
wishes from the servitude of mankind to
the servitude of Allah and from the
tightness of this world to its expanse
and from the injustice of the ways of
life [in this world] to the justice of
Islam."

WHY DOESN'T THE QURAN HAVE THE SAME
EFFECT TODAY?

The reason why the Quran does not have
the same effect today has nothing to do
with the essential nature of the Quran
as it will always be the true guidance
that is ever available to take mankind
from darkness into light. The source of
the problem is in the way that many of
today's believers approach the Quran.
The possible reasons for this kind of
situation could be many. In general,
though, four, which were mentioned in
the introductory chapter, stand out
glaringly:

(1) Some Muslims emphasize secondary
aspects of the Quran while ignoring its
more important primary aspects;

(2) Too many Muslims do not recognize
and understand the primary goals of the
Quran; therefore they read it but do not
get out of it what it desires

(3) In addition, some Muslims do not
approach the Quran in the proper manner,
missing the essential link between what
it teaches and how it is to affect
mankind; and

(4) Even when the above obstacles or
problems are overcome, still some
Muslims do not interpret the Quran in
the proper manner and, hence, although
they read it they do not get its correct
teachings from it.

ARE YOU AFRAID TO BECOME A MUSLIM?

ARE YOU AFRAID TO BECOME A MUSLIM?

Why Islam is not acceptable to some
people and it's because they fear........

  • Losing their culture
  • Circumcision
  • Don't know how to speak Arabic
  • Pressure from parents, friends and society
  • Fasting
  • Praying 5 times a day
  • Changing their ways

LOSING YOUR CULTURE

It's not true that you'll lose your
culture. Lots of people misunderstand
this. In the West, it is thought that
when somebody becomes a muslim, he
becomes an Arab too. For example in
Malaysia, when somebody becomes a
muslim, people think that he becomes a
Malay just because majority of the
muslims in Malaysia are Malays.

This confusion is only brought up by
narrow minded people who don't
understand. Allah has made us to many
races, many cultures and many languages
too. It is one of the beauty of the many
creations of Allah that we have our own
culture and we should appreciate it.

Similarly, we shouldn't be selfish of
our own culture. We should share it
between our muslim brothers and sisters.
Islam is a religion, not a race. An
English parent would give birth to an
English child, but a muslim parent might
not give birth to a muslim child.

CIRCUMCISION

This is something which people shouldn't
worry or get scared about. Circumcision
does not make somebody a muslim, neither
does it make somebody a non muslim. It
is only a procedure of cleanliness which
you right want to do to keep yourself clean.

It is stated in the hadith, sahih
Muslim, it is a fitrah, meaning practice
of the prophet.

When a man urinates, some of the urine
gets trapped on the foreskin. It is his
duty to clean it with water. The
foreskin traps smega, which is a smelly
chesse-like substance on the foreskin.
If it is left like that, infection will
occur, thus making the foreskin swollen.

You must understand that Islam stresses
on cleanliness and circumcision is one
of the ways to preserve cleanliness.

Some people don't want to be muslims
because they fear circumcision. May
Allah help you.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ARABIC

You don't have to worry about that. The
Arabic language has been chosen as the
International language for muslims. The
original form of the Quran to the humans
on this earth is Arabic. So, we need to
learn it in order to understand and
appreciate it. It so happened that Allah
chose an Arab leader, our beloved
prophet Mohammed SAW to begin the
mission or conveying the message of
Islam to mankind. Perhaps, it's because
the Arabs are hard headed people and
Allah wanted to improve them.

If you notice, Moses and Jesus' mission
was to spread the religion to the
Israelites. Islam at that time was in a
different form and name and therefore,
it was incomplete. It was only during
the prophet's time where Allah announced
that on that very day, Allah has
completed the religion for mankind.

Translations of the Quran and other
Islamic books can be found in abundance
all over the world.

PRESSURE FROM PARENTS, FRIENDS AND SOCIETY

Pressure is very normal but what we
really want is the truth. There are lots
of challenges in our lives. Lots of
people want us to follow their ways, may
it be good or bad. But the main thing we
must realise that we are living for our
own lives. If we do anything wrong, it
is us that will suffer, not anybody
else. So, it is most important that you
make your own decision.

If you make the correct decision, in the
end, it will be you who benefit from it.
Take it slowly, one at a time. You don't
have to tell anybody that you are a
muslim if the situation is bad. Why get
yourself into so much trouble? Why tell
your parents when you are still young
and under their financial support and
get yourself scolded badly left and
right? That's not all. Words will travel
to your relatives too and your relatives
too will make you suffer. Allah gave us
brains to think. Make use of it.

FASTING

There is a reason to everything,
similarly, there is a purpose for
fasting. Look at the poor people. They
fast even more often than us. We have a
comfortable house to live in. Whenever
we want food, we can easily go out to
the shops to buy some. Allah wants us to
feel how to poor People feel and suffer
like how they suffer.

You are allowed to eat when the sun is
still down. But when the sun rises,
you'll have to stop eating, stop smoking
and also refrain from having sex till
the sun is down again. It is not
difficult to do so and this is only for
one month. Is it too much to ask?

The poor people are forced to do it for
all their lives. Then we'll know how
lucky we are to live a comfortable live
and our duty next is to help the poor.

Another explanation for this is that
fasting is a very healthy practice. Our
stomach has been working for 24 hours a
day non stop every year. So, it's time
to give it a rest. Besides, it'll help
us slim down a bit too if we are overweight.

Islam is liberal. Travellers, the sick
and pregnant women are not expected to
fast. They can replace the fast when
they are prepared to fast.

PRAYING 5 TIMES A DAY

How would you feel if you have been
invited by the ruler of your country to
see him just once in your lifetime,
because he wants to listen to you and
solve your problems? You'll feel
honoured and great, right? But this is
different.

The Creator of the universe wants to see
you! He's asking you to approach Him 5
times a day, to talk to him, so that He
can help you in your life, Insha-Allah.
Isn't that marvelous?

As for me, the ruler of my country has
never asked me to approach him before.
Who am I anyway? I don't have a high
status, neither am I rich. But look,
what has the Creator of the universe has
invited me to do. Praying 5 times a day
is not taxing. Once you are used to it,
you'll enjoy doing it. You should know
why you are praying and the meaning
words which you say, then only you'll
appreciate the very essence of prayer.

CHANGING THEIR WAYS

We must not be afraid to change whatever
we have done wrong. Allah is merciful.
He forgives as long as you sincerely
repent and make sure never to repeat the
same mistakes again. Allah won't punish
somebody who realize that he has done
wrong about something and decides to
return to the true path.

This problem usually happens to people
with high status, especially teachers of
religious schools. Some of them think
that if they suddenly tell that they
have done wrong, and tell them the
correct thing, people will look down at
them, and will ask them what they have
been doing all this while. This action
of admitting your mistakes is not
shameful but rather honorable. We are
human and it's only human nature to make
mistakes. But it is our responsibility
to check on ourselves and also help
other people check on themselves and
correct them if necessary.

The Miracle of Zam Zam Water

The Miracle of Zam Zam Water

Research by Tariq Hussain and Moin Uddin Ahmed

(random picture from internet)

Come the Hajj season, and I am reminded of the wonders of Zumzum water. Let me go back to how it all started. In 1971, an Egyptian doctor wrote to the European Press, a letter saying that Zumzum water was not fit for drinking purposes. I immediately thought that this was just a form of prejudice against the Muslims and that since his statement was based on the assumption that since the Ka'aba was a shallow place (below sea level) and located in the center of the city of Makkah, the wastewater of the city collecting through the drains fell into well holding the water.

Fortunately, the news came to King Faisal's ears who got extremely angry and decided to disprove the Egyptian doctor's provocative statement. He immediately ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources to investigate and send samples of Zumzum water to European laboratories for testing the potability of the water.

(random picture from internet)

The ministry then instructed the Jeddah Power and Desalination Plants to carry out this task. It was here that I was employed as a desalting engineer (chemical engineer to produce drinking water from sea water). I was chosen to carry out this assignment. At this stage, I remember that I had no idea what the well holding the water looked like. I went to Makkah and reported to the authorities at the Ka'aba explaining my purpose of visit.

They deputed a man to give me whatever help was required. When we reached the well, it was hard for me to believe that a pool of water, more like a small pond, about 18 by 14 feet, was the well that supplied millions of gallons of water every year to hajis ever since it came into existence at the time of Hazrat Ibrahim A.S., many, many centuries ago. I started my investigations and took the dimensions of the well. I asked the man to show me the depth of the well.

First he took a shower and descended into the water. Then he straightened his body. I saw that the water level came up to just above his shoulders. His height was around five feet, eight inches. He then started moving from one corner to the other in the well (standing all the while since he was not allowed to dip his head into the water) in search of any inlet or pipeline inside the well to see from where the water came in. However, the man reported that he could not find any inlet or pipeline inside the well.

I thought of another idea. The water could be withdrawn rapidly with the help of a big transfer pump which was installed at the well for the Zumzum water storage tanks. In this way, the water level would drop enabling us to locate the point of entry of the water. Surprisingly, nothing was observed during the pumping period, but I knew that this was the only method by which you could find the entrance of the water to the well. So I decided to repeat the process. But this time I instructed the man to stand still at one place and carefully observe any unusual thing happening inside the well. After a while, he suddenly raised his hands and shouted, "Alhamdollillah! I have found it. The sand is dancing beneath my feet as the water oozes out of the bed of the well."

Then he moved around the well during the pumping period and noticed the same phenomenon everywhere in the well. Actually the flow of water into the well through the bed was equal at every point, thus keeping the level of the water steady. After I finished my observations I took the samples of the water for European laboratories to test. Before I left the Ka'aba, I asked the authorities about the other wells around Makkah.

I was told that these wells were mostly dry. When I reached my office in Jeddah I reported my findings to my boss who listened with great interest but made a very irrational comment that the Zumzum well could be internally connected to the Red Sea . How was it possible when Makkah is about 75 kilometres away from the sea and the wells located before the city usually remains dry? The results of the water samples tested by the European laboratories and the one We analysed in our own laboratory were found to be almost identical.

The difference between Zumzum water and other water (city water) was in the quantity of calcium and magnesium salts.

The content of these was slightly higher in Zumzum water. This may be why this water refreshes tired hajis, but more significantly, the water contained fluorides that have an effective germicidal action. Moreover, the remarks of the European laboratories showed that the water was fit for drinking.

(random picture from internet)

Hence the statement made by the Egyptian doctor was proved false. When this was reported to King Faisal he was extremely pleased and ordered the contradiction of the report in the European Press. In a way, it was a blessing that this study was undertaken to show the chemical composition of the water. In fact, the more you explore, the more wonders surface and you find yourself believing implicitly in the miracles of this water that God bestowed as a gift on the faithful coming from far and wide to the desert land for pilgrimage.

Let me sum up some of the features of Zumzum water.

This well has never dried up. On the contrary it has always fulfilled the demand for water. It has always maintained the same salt composition and taste ever since it came into existence. Its potability has always been universally recognised as pilgrims from all over the world visit Ka'aba every year for Hajj and umrah, but have never complained about it. Instead, they have always enjoyed the water that refreshes them. Water tastes different at different places.

Zumzum water's appeal has always been universal. This water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water pumped into the cities. Biological growth and vegetation usually takes place in most wells. This makes the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste and odour problems.

But in the case of the Zumzum water well, there wasn't any sign of biological growth. Centuries ago, Hagar (raa) searched desperately for water in the hills of Safa and Marwa to give to her newly born son Ismail (pbuh) As she ran from one place to another in search of water, her child rubbed his feet against the sand. A pool of water surfaced, and by the grace of God, shaped itself into a well which came to be called Zumzum water.

Membangun Pribadi Muslim Tangguh / WAKE UP MUSLIMS!

Membangun Pribadi Muslim Tangguh

(gmbr sekadar hiasan-from internet)

p/s: Thats the problem with our ummah now, macam mana kita hendak bergerak maju seiring dengan penganut agama lain sekiranya kita sendiri tidak menegakkan syiar Islam?

Characteristics of Islamic Approved Hijab

glitter textglitter textglitter textglitter textglitter text

Hijab or ħijāb (حجاب) is the Arabic term for "cover" (noun), based on the root حجب meaning "to veil, to cover (verb), to screen, to shelter"

The Quran instructs Muslims to dress in a modest way. In the Quran, Allah speaks about the quran speaks about men's hijab, then only women. The following verses are generally interpreted as applying to all Muslim men and women.

Surah 24 An- Nur, verse 31 :

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and
guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and
ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should
draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except
to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons,
their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their
sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands
possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who
have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their
feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye
Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

According to Dr Zakir Naik's speech in one of his Islamic talk, he described about the 6 main rules of approved hijab in Islam, which are:
  1. It should not be transparent
  2. Should not be tight or showing ur body figures and curves
  3. It should not be glamorous that it attracts the opposites
  4. Every part should be covered except for hands and face
  5. It should not resembles the non-believers trend eg: wearing cross
  6. It should not be similar or resembles the male's outfit

In Malaysia, the headscarf is known as a tudung.

7 Tips For Improving Your Relationship With The Quran

Are you one of those people who rarely touches the Quran? Or do you read daily, but don't find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Quran.

1. Before you touch it, check your heart

The key to really benefiting from the Quran is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah's book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was described by his wife as a "walking Quran": in other words, he didn't just read and recite the Quran, he lived it.

2. Do your Wudu (ablution)

Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you you're not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.

3. Read only 5 minutes everyday

Too often, we think we should read Quran for at least one whole hour. If you aren't in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become ten, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!

4. Make sure you understand what you've read

Five minutes of reading the Quran in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you're reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Quran in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you've read that day .

5. Remember, the Quran is more interactive than a CD

In an age of "interactive" CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Quran is not like that. Remember that when you read Quran, you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.

6. Don't just read, listen too

There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Quran, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car's CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Quran reading, not as a replacement for it.

7. Make Dua (supplication)

Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Quran. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

Allah know best...

Doa dan Adab Menziarahi Orang Sakit/Supplications or Duas when visiting the sick.

Assalamualaikum wbt

When someone is critically ill

When someone is so critically ill that there is no hope for his recovery, under no circumstances should he (or she) pray for his (or her) death. But if one must, then one should recite the following dua:

Allah-humma ah-yini ma kaanatil hayaatu khairall-lee wa tawaff-fani i-dha kaanatil wa faato khai-rall-lee.

Translation: O Allah, keep me alive so long as it is in my best interest and give me death when it is in my best interest.

When visiting the sick

La ba'sa tahoorun inshaa-Allah. La ba'sa tahoorun inshaa-Allah.

Translation: No need to worry. It (this sickness) is a means of cleansing from sins. No need to worry. It (this sickness) is a means of cleansing from sins.

Ziarah seperti saranan baginda Rasulullah SAW:

Cth ucapan: “Tidak apa-apa insyaAllah lekas sembuh.”
  4. Pendekkan waktu ziarah
  5. Penjarangkan waktu ziarah agar tidak menyulitkan si sakit(kecuali si sakit mengkehendaki sebaliknya)
  6. Wanita boleh menziarahi lelaki. Dalil: Aisyah ra pernah menziarahi Bilal bin Rabah ra yg sakit demam panas
  7. Boleh juga menziarahi orang bukan Islam. Dalil: alBukhari meriwayatkan dalam bab menjenguk orang musyrik

http://soaljawab.wordpress.com/2007/04/22/adab-menziarahi-orang-sakit/

Wallahualam

Beware of Secularism....

Bismillahirrahmannirrahim

May peace be with all of the readers.... As you can see, todays topic is ' Beware of Secularism..'

Now, for those of you who still did not really know what does Secularism means, here's the definition from wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secularism

Secularism is generally the assertion that certain practices or institutions should exist separately from religion or religious belief. Alternatively, it is a principle of promoting secular ideas or values in either public or private settings. It may also be a synonym for "secularist movement". In the extreme, it is an ideology that holds that religion has no place in public life.

In one sense, secularism may assert the freedom of religion, and freedom from the government imposition of religion upon the people, within a state that is neutral on matters of belief, and gives no state privileges or subsidies to religions.

Now that you have a bit of idea on what secularism all about, lets analyze the term from Islamic perspective. First of all, the simple way to understand secularism, is when you separate religion from your daily living.

For example, let say when you are doing your business, you tend to cheat your customer by reducing the amount of fruits that you sell, and you did it without fearing that action might cause you in the hereafter. You are not afraid of the hellfire or sins, and you think that you can get away from them easily without being judged later. Remember, one of the verses in Quran that says:

We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so that not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least, and if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account. (Surah Al Anbiya :47).

Besides, you will feel embarrassed to speak about Islam or applying it in your daily lives. It is because you think that Islamic teachings are just way out of date and conservative.

When you dress, your fashion might look like Islamic, but actually it is not! For ladies especially, their attires are glamorous and sexy even though they are wearing the hijab (tudung) on. These trends existed long ago, since the Dark Age era, and it is known as ' Tabbaruj Aj- Jahiliyyah', or fashion of those ignorant during Dark Age.

Well, of course all of us have the freedom of expression on how to talk, walk or behave. But then again, for Muslims, we all have limits to express our opinions. It should not be opposite with what written in the Quran and Hadith.

On a final note, when you think that you have some of the characteristics of secular in yourself, you better do something about it...

Some of the tips to avoid secularism are:

- Dress according to appropriate Islamic guidelines ( I'll post about that soon, don't miss it).

- Study and explore the Quran, and most importantly, APPRECIATE it!

-Remember and always set in your heart and mind that we will not live forever, and believe that the Day of Judgement will definitely come and there's no way that any living souls can escape it!

- Make friends with Muslim friends that are really 'Muslims' ( you know what i mean!)

- Dont be fooled by those extreme entertainment shows aired on TV, they are all fake and will not last long!

- Think of Allah, Allah, Allah more than anyone else!
- OF course pray 5 times a day, plus all the Sunnat Prayer, Sunnat deeds, repent a lot (istighfar) in your daily supplication, hear Islamic lectures to motivate your souls, always ask advice from any religious person around you about your personality, is it the way any Muslims should behave or the other way round.

I think thats all from me. I'm reminding myself before I'm reminding you. So let us all pray that we will be guided by Allah in the straight path, the part of those Mu'minin before us. Amin. Hopefully by following all the guidelines, we will bring back the glory of our ummah and become a better Muslims day by day. Insya Allah.

Lastly, any mistakes or imperfection of this article are from myself, and all of the beauty from this article are from Allah the Al-Mighty.
